Doosan Fuel Cell Joins the ‘Future Food and Energy Convergence Center’ development project
- Doosan will provide about 20MW hydrogen fuel cells, maintenance and technical support
Doosan Fuel Cell participates in a project to improve the living conditions by revitalizing local economies, fostering new growth industries, and leading carbon neutrality in Hadong-gun, South Gyeongsang Province.
Doosan Fuel Cell announced on September 21st that it had signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Hadong-gun, korea Hydro and Nuclear Power, Gyeongnam QSF, and Daewoo E&C for the 'Future food, energy and fuel cell generation convergence project'.
The Convergence Center is an energy self-sufficient business model that converges quick freezing business and hydrogen fuel cell power generation business. Cold energy generated at an extremely low temperature(-162℃) from vaporizing LNG is supplied to quick freezers to promote IQF business while NG is fueled to hydrogen fuel cells. Electricity produced by hydrogen fuel cells is sold to the Korea Power Exchange, and hot water is used for heat supplied to food drying, smart farms and district heating as well as to cold air drying through absorption chillers.
Under the agreement, Doosan Fuel Cell will supply approximately 20MW (440kW, 45 units) of hydrogen fuel cells and long term maintenance services (LTSA) including technical support.
“This center is our new business model that combines future food, eco-friendly renewable energy and thermal energy supply business,” says a Doosan Fuel Cell official. “Proven in our latest contract which supplies fuel cells to a local data center, we will remain committed to diversifying our business landscape.”
