Doosan Fuel Cell signs an MOU to conserve biodiversity and restore endangered species
- Plan to support the transplantation and restoration of endangered wild plant 'Dendrobium moniliforme' in Saemangeum area of Gunsan
On the 8th of October, Doosan Fuel Cell signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the National Institute of Ecology (NIE) to ‘conserve biodiversity and restore endangered species’ at NIE Endangered Species Recovery Center, located in Yeongyang-gun of Gyeongsangbuk-do. Junyoung Park, Senior Vice President of Doosan Fuel Cell, Seungwoon Choi, Head of the Endangered Species Recovery Center and relevant officials participated in the ceremony.
Under the agreement, both sides will cooperate on ▲ developing and operating an EGS management cooperative program for biodiversity promotion, ▲ protecting endangered species and sharing effectiveness of cooperative activities for the culture of conservation, and ▲ supporting mutual research and technological capabilities, as well as exchanges of human and physical resources, to build a long-term cooperative system.
Both sides have selected the Class II endangered wildlife 'Dendrobium moniliforme' as the target species for biodiversity conservation activity. The epiphyte 'Dendrobium moniliforme' grows on the surfaces of rocks or old trees and is an evergreen perennial native to Jeju Island and Jeolla Province. 'Dendrobium moniliforme' has been designated as a Class II endangered wildlife due to overexploitation.
Doosan Fuel Cell has donated 30 million won to support this project, and employee volunteers will engage in transplanting and restoring 'Dendrobium moniliforme' in the Saemangeum area next spring. In addition, the company will collaborate with the NIE to continuously monitor and improve the restoration status of 'Dendrobium moniliforme' after the completion of its transplantation.
Doosan Fuel Cell conducted an eco-friendly campaign called 'Green Walking Challenge' to raise funds for donations from September 25th to October 10th. 'Green Walking Challenge' is an environmental protection campaign that encourages individuals to promote their health and reduce carbon emissions in their daily lives by walking to nearby places instead of using public transportation or personal vehicles.
320 campaign participants, including Doosan Fuel Cell employers, employees, their families, and employees of partner companies, recorded a total of 33.97 million steps. During the campaign, Doosan Fuel Cell contributed to an additional reduction of 362 kg of carbon emissions, which is equivalent to the emissions absorbed by 55 pine trees that are 30 years old in one year.
"Biodiversity conservation is considered one of the most important ESG activities in the international community, following the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions", and “as a leading eco-friendly energy company, we will do our
best to protect and restore endangered animals and plants, and practice ESG management.” says an official from Doosan Fuel Cell.
