Following ‘Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant’, Doosan Fuel Cell decided to join the world’s largest fuel cell power plant project.

Doosan Fuel Cell signed an MOU with a local government and five companies, including Chuncheon, POSCO E&C, Nexia Samduk, and East Chuncheon Green Energy on ‘100MW fuel cell power plant project’on August 29, at Chuncheon city hall in Gangwon Province.

This agreement will ensure that Doosan Fuel Cell supplies 240 units of 440kW fuel cells(105.6MW) to 37,681㎡of the Dongchuncheon General Industrial Complex in Chuncheon, Gangwon Province and offers long-term maintenance service for fuel cell systems. Annually, this power plant will generate approximately 800,000 MWh which can power 220,000 households composed of our members. Overall, the project has a great advantage of mitigating the negative effects of intermittent generation of hydro power plants as they are heavily affected by rainfall and water storage amounts in the city. Another advantage is to improve electric self-sufficiency there.

“We expect this project will encourage Chuncheon to serve for the administrative push for hydrogen economy by developing a green energy production hub and local economic promotion,”said a city hall official.
“Following Daesan Hydrogen Fuel Cell Power Plant, world’s first and largest in its kind, this agreement proves our technological prowess in the global market,”said Sookyung Yoo, CEO of Doosan Fuel Cell. “With relentless commitment to hydrogen economy roadmap and Korean New Deal, Doosan Fuel Cell provides clean and safe energy solutions, thereby taking the lead in ushering in the hydrogen society, not mention to success of this project.”

Construction will begin at the end of 2022 and commercial operation will start in 2025 over the next 20 years with an approximate 700 billion won investment.

In the meantime, Doosan Fuel Cell is planning to ramp up its capacity up to 275MW in 2022 with an aim to to fulfil growing demands for hydrogen industry and diversify its portfolio, including NG, LPG/NG dual and hydrogen model.
